SkyPlane – Privacy Policy
Introduction
SkyPlane respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the SkyPlane app on iPhone and Apple Watch.
1. Personal Information
SkyPlane does not require user registration and does not collect or store personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, or account information on servers operated by SkyPlane.
SkyPlane does not use advertising or analytics services and does not track users across apps or websites.
2. Location Information
SkyPlane uses your device's location to find and display aircraft near your current location.
Your location is used only for features that require your current position, such as searching for nearby aircraft and displaying aircraft relative to your position.
To retrieve nearby aircraft information, geographic coordinates derived from your current location are included in requests sent to The OpenSky Network.
SkyPlane does not maintain its own server or database containing your location and does not create or store a history of your location.
Location information is not used by SkyPlane for advertising, marketing, profiling, or tracking.
You can revoke SkyPlane's access to location information at any time through the privacy and location settings on your device.
3. Motion and Compass Information
SkyPlane may use compass heading and device motion information to orient aircraft information and the map relative to the direction in which your device is pointing.
This information is processed on your device and is not transmitted by SkyPlane to external aviation data services.
4. External Aviation Data Services
SkyPlane uses external services to provide aircraft and flight information.
The OpenSky Network
Aircraft position data is obtained from The OpenSky Network. Geographic coordinates derived from your current location may be transmitted to The OpenSky Network as part of a request to find aircraft in the surrounding area.
HexDB
SkyPlane may query HexDB using an aircraft identifier, such as an ICAO/Mode-S code, to obtain aircraft information such as aircraft type, registration, and manufacturer.
ADSBDB
SkyPlane may query ADSBDB using aircraft or flight identifiers, such as a callsign, to obtain information such as airline, aircraft, origin airport, and destination airport.
These Internet requests may also include technical information normally associated with network communication, such as an IP address.
The handling of information by these external services is subject to their respective terms and privacy practices.
5. Data Storage
SkyPlane does not maintain its own server or database containing users' personal information or location history.
App preferences and settings may be stored locally on your device as necessary for the operation of the app.
6. Data Sharing
SkyPlane does not sell, rent, or provide users' personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
Information required to obtain aircraft data is transmitted only as necessary to the external aviation data services described above.
7. Advertising and Tracking
SkyPlane does not display advertisements.
SkyPlane does not use advertising identifiers and does not track users across apps or websites for advertising or marketing purposes.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
SkyPlane does not maintain user accounts and does not store personal information or location history on its own servers.
Locally stored SkyPlane settings and app data can be removed by deleting the app from your device.
Data transmitted to external services is subject to the data handling and retention practices of those services.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if SkyPlane's functionality or data handling practices change.
Any changes will be published on this page together with an updated revision date.
